Once again this month, we received a beautiful nerikiri sweet from Sabi-An.
This month’s sweet is named “Asagao” (Morning Glory). Its refreshing colors bring a sense of coolness during the hot summer months.
During the Labor Day weekend in September, our tea group, the Tea Ceremony Society of St. Louis, Junshin-An, will once again participate in the annual Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis.
This year, we will demonstrate the Marujoku Furo Usucha Temae (thin tea procedure using a round shelf and brazier) with a ryūrei-style setup designed to give the appearance of performing tea ceremony on tatami while seated in the traditional way.
We tried setting it up in our six-tatami tea room, and it made the walkway rather narrow. However, we think there will be plenty of room when we set it up on the festival stage.
