前回に引き続き、京都からの滞在日記です。
On a pleasantly warm, sunny day in February, four of us—my friend from Awaji Island, her tea friend, and I—visited the Furuta Oribe Museum and the Raku Museum.
The Oribe Museum is a small, cozy place right across from the Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden. It had displays of tearoom materials, tea caddies, incense containers, and bamboo tea scoops associated with Furuta Oribe. Many pieces felt surprisingly modern, and I was struck by how ahead of his time Oribe was over 400 years ago.
Afterward, we strolled through the botanical garden, enjoying the plum blossoms in full bloom and the orchids in the greenhouse. The early spring flowers were especially uplifting.
After lunch, we went to the Raku Museum. Even though it’s close enough to walk from my home, it was my first visit. The exhibition, themed around celebration, featured tea bowls, incense containers, and lid rests with auspicious designs like pine and the zodiac horse. Seeing the actual works left me with a warm, deeply satisfied feeling that’s hard to put into words.
