Chakai at Naganoan

On the first weekend of May, we held our monthly chakai, tea gathering, at Nagano-an in Missouri Botanical Garden. The teahouse was in its best season surrounded by the beautiful lush greens of bamboo and purple Japanese maples.  We were glad to see the joy on each of our guests’ faces after sipping tea in this special tranquil setting.  We served nerikiri sweets shaped like Japanese iris, ayame. One of my students and I made forty of these nerikiri the day before chakai for this special occasion and also for our weekly practice.
