Chasen kazari

There are thin tea and thick tea procedure for chasen kazari just like chawan kazari. Although in chasen kazari it sounds like chasen is the focus, it isn’t. Instead the host wishes to feature one of the following items:  mizusashi (water container), furosakibyoubu (folding screen), or robuchi (hearth frame). The utensil featured this day was mizusashi.

When the guests enter the tearoom during the formal gathering, there is only a scroll in the alcove. Between the light meal and serving tea, the host replaces the scroll with a flower, puts a tea container in a chawan, and displays a chashaku and a chasen on the mizusashi. After the initial formal bowing, the main guest will ask the host about mizusashi and its special meaning.

To prepare the mizusashi for viewing at the end of the procedure, the host empties the water from and dries the container before wrapping it in a large white cloth. Before leaving, the last guest will return the mizusashi to the host at the sadoguchi door.
